SWAN Christian College’s theatre company, which won the 2018 Fringe World Theatre Award at the end of the Perth Fringe World Festival, has raised $37,829 for a drug rehabilitation centre in the City of Swan.
The funds were raised through ticket sales of the show ANYMAN which was produced by drug rehabilitation centre Shalom House in conjunction with the college’s theatre company Fenceline Theatre.
On Monday, May 7 Swan Christian College principal Adrian Scott, together with Fenceline Theatre director Jane Hille and some of the cast presented the cheque to Shalom House chief executive officer Peter Lyndon-James, who is also a City of Swan councillor.
The production, which took place in the college’s Maali Mia theatre, sold out most nights.
Fenceline Theatre director Jane Hille based the script for the show on Mr Lyndon-James’ book Tough Love.
Nineteen Shalom House residents, together with Swan Christian College alumni and staff formed the cast.
Swan Christian College principal Adrian Scott said the college was pleased to be able to contribute to the efforts of an organisation that brought hope and restoration to lives and families affected by addiction.
“It is a matter that devastates many in our community and I am glad that we were able to support the fundraising endeavours towards this cause,’’ he said.
Ms Hille said the collaboration had presented college alumni with the opportunity to be involved in original contemporary theatre which shared an important message of awareness and social change with the community.
“It is an experience that they will carry with them for many years to come,’’ she said.
